I was perusing the news tonight and something I saw prompted me to run a Google search on myself...(nothing like the internet to make you feel popular, right?) I was pleased to see ME featured so prominently in the results. Apparently, I have quite the presence on the web - who knew? Anyway, one of the links was directed at an ancient Dave Barry blog and the resulting poetry. Eventually the trail led to my old blog. I was quite enchanted to find what a great writer I used to be! Funny. Inspired, even.
All this to say, it's been a long while, and I think it's high time I wrote again. My circumstances are epically removed from when I blogged before, so there are no guarantees ... but, really, you get what you pay for, don't you? At any rate, it will likely do me a lot of good, so I'll do the hard part (the writing, that is) and if no one reads it, c'est la vie!
Now to the good stuff...
I feel a little bewildered by the fact that both stimulus packages up for discussion will offer to subsidize health insurance for those laid off during this 'economic downturn,' and yet I, a full-time employee WITH (the paltry) health insurance offered by my employer, can not afford the prescriptions that keep me sane (-ish) and seizure free. I do not qualify for ANY federal or state program, nor can I buy private health insurance due to my 'pre-existing' conditions. Talk about falling through the cracks! Let's talk about REAL change, Mr. President.
And then there's baseball... Longtime readers know I'm a true fan. I see that A-Rod seems to have grown some cajones of late and is coming clean. Good for you, Alex. Not so Roger Clemens, sadly. All I can say is that, while baseball was tarnished briefly, football remains a disaster. Perhaps we can put all this nonsense behind us and return to genuine sportif.
